Hurricane season is here. With hurricane Florence in the Atlantic Ocean we need to be prepared for it to come to our area. Prepare ahead of time for the unexpected.

Build a survival kit:
Stock up on water for drinking, non perishable foods, medications (for at least 3 days) and hygiene products. Be sure to have your important documents such as medical information and insurance documents in a safe dry place. You can put these documents on your cell phones or a safe deposit box.

Check out https://www.ready.gov/build-a-kit for a complete list of things to put in your survival kit.

Have an evacuation plan:
Know where you need to go and evacuate in a timely manner. If you have pets make sure the shelter takes pets. Do not leave your pets to fend for themselves. Do not wait until the last minute. This could be dangerous and hard for emergency services to help you.

Last but not least, we want our community to stay safe during the weather. Stay indoors during hurricanes. Do not go out driving around looking at damage during the height of the storm. Hurricanes bring a lot of rain and wind. We live in an area surrounded by water. With the amount of rain we have had this summer it will not take long for our creeks and rivers to overflow. Do not drive through water on the road. "TURN AROUND DON'T DROWN". Also with the rain comes wind and the ground around the trees in the area are weak. Its not going to take much for the trees to start falling.

Stay safe.
