The members of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad invite you to share in the proud heritage of the squad and to encourage you to contribute in your own way to the enrichment of that heritage. The Mechanicsville Rescue Squad was founded in 1959 by a group of men who perceived a serious need for emergency medical service for this area. This service to that time was provided by the funeral home in Leonardtown. It provided only a means of transportation. Together, these men founded the squad, purchased a used ambulance, and were trained in advanced first aid. On the 30th of November, 1959, the Articles of Incorporation were signed and recorded; bringing the organization into formal existence. From the early days, when the squad responded to 66 calls with one 1952 Cadillac ambulance, the squad has provided over 30 years of continuous service to our community. Many things have changed, but one element that never changes is the need for dedicated volunteers, whose only reward is the satisfaction of a job well done in a time of need.
