Donkey Ball

On Saturday, May 15, Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad held the most fun fundraiser of all. Two teams of MVRS players play against the St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Office and St. Mary’s Emergency Communications. Players had to start at home plate and ride donkeys to the first base, while those in the out field had to get the ball and get on their donkey to throw or tag the other team out. The donkeys do not cooperate well which makes the game so much fun. You get bucked off your donkey, whether it be the front or the back. Sometimes the donkey will not move to get you to the ball. They have a mind of their own and stubborn, they will only do what they want to do.
MVRS lost to the Sheriff’s office and to Emergency Communications in the first two. So the championship game was played by the Sheriff’s office and Communications. In that championship game the teams ended up in a tie and a donkey riding contest determined the winner.
During intermission there was a game called musical donkeys that was played. The community that came to watch got to participate.
We had one injury and that member of MVRS is doing well.
Everyone had a good time and money was raised for the squad at the same time. MVRS hopes to make this fund raiser an annual event. There is so much fun and laughter shared with this event.
